The consumer price index (CPI), was constructed using the consumption patterns of households . The CPI measures how they evolve, on average, the prices of a representative basket of goods and services expenditure of these households, but not much is this set of goods and services at a time.
An increase in the index involves a reduction in the purchasing power of money in terms of prices means that all consumer goods and services, when low, reflecting an increase in purchasing power of money in those terms.
